AMTO had an unusual beginning: during lock-down a group of local musicians collaborated to create a video, "Overture of Overtures". This video was used to raise funds for Aberdeen Performing Arts while all their venues were closed and it proved very popular, gaining thousands of views rapidly.

At the time there was no thought to performing the overture live, that came two years later...
AMTO Live!
In 2022 a group of the original musicians met to discuss creating a live concert, mainly to perform the Overture of Overtures live but also to form a new orchestra for the Aberdeen area, designed to perform music from theatre and films. The AMTO committee was born and it was this group of people that planned and organised our very first live concert.

The First Concert
The first live concert took place in September 2023 after a year of planning. An orchestra of around 30 players was assembled along with 12 vocalists to perform songs from a variety of musicals. The Overture of Overtures also featured. The event sold out Mannofield Church several days before the concert took place and it was clear by the audience reaction that this was an event to be repeated.
